Today, helicopters play an irreplaceable role for any military and law enforcement agencies in modern crisis management. However, the threat landscape they operate in exposes them as an easy target of armed fire by militants and enemy forces. This has necessitated the need to make helicopters more ballistically tolerant by incorporating armour panels. Though, incorporating any type armour panels comes at a cost of weight penalty which impacts the payload carrying capability & endurance of the helicopter.

MKU has pioneered in developing a practical solutions for helicopter armouring with their modular retro-fit armour solution, called as Modular Schutz Technik (MoST). This technique when coupled with MKU’s Generation 6 Polyshield V6 armouring solution based armour panels, results in 40% lighter and thinner armour panels compared to standard solutions. Employing MoST design approach in helicopter armouring, the following benefits can be achieved when compared to standard solutions:

  • Increased Useful Payload Capacity: Every reduction in weight due to a lightweight armour solution, increases the capacity of helicopter to carry additional soldier, ammunition or supplies
  • More Endurance: Lesser armour weight results in increase of fuel carrying capacity, thus impacting the endurance and operational radius of the helicopter
