Maritime security & High Seas patrolling has gained a renewed focus since November 2008. The coast line infilteration by extremists have long been a major concern for MOI, MOD and Ministry of Home Affairs. It further gained a center stage Post 26/11 terrorist attacks on Mumbai. The key threat, being the sea route taken by the terrorists, after overpowering a fishing trawler in high seas and hitching a free ride to reach the Mumbai coasts and unleash mayhem. What happened thereafter is well documented history.

Post November Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Defense resolved to modernize the high sea patrol boats and Goa Shipyard was entrusted with the job of primarily armouring the Patrol Boats, placing personnel protection to paramount importance. Goa Shipyard has long standing history of delivering quality maritime solutions to the Indian Naval Forces. With its stringent quality norms and dogmatic approach to perfection made it the most eligible PSU to be trusted with the herculean task.

Goa Shipyard approached the market for Up-armoring project with a key focus to zero down on the operator who could not only provide certified ballistic Solutions but also provide services in terms of integration of the same with use of systems and sub-systems. To which, only MKU, being one of the strongest contenders, fitted the bill to perfection.
